Gospel artist Clementine Uwitonze (Tonzi) has launched her first book "An Open Jail," a memoir detailing personal struggles and her journey to healing. The 174-page book was launched at Crown Conference in Kigali on August 14, 2025, with government officials and prominent artists in attendance.
Gospel artist Clementine Uwitonze, popularly known as Tonzi, has officially launched her ninth album titled "Respect." The launch took place in Kigali, marking a major milestone in her 20-year music journey. Featuring 15 tracks with several collaborations, the album reflects Tonzi's gratitude to God and resilience through personal challenges, including illness and pregnancy during its production.
Clementine Uwitonze (Tonzi) has risen from singing in church choirs to become a major force in Rwanda's gospel music scene. Starting her musical journey as a choir girl at a young age, she has since built a prolific career spanning several decades. Tonzi is now recognised for her powerful voice, several hit songs, multiple albums, and her influence both locally and beyond Rwanda.
Clementine Uwitonze (Tonzi) has been awarded a Master's degree in Theology from Gate Breakers University. The graduation ceremony took place on August 30, 2025, in Kigali. Tonzi expressed joy at fulfilling her lifelong dream alongside her 20-year music career.
After 10 years apart, gospel group "The Sisters" reunited to celebrate Tonzi's ninth album "Respect" at Crown Conference Hall. The event featured 15 songs across diverse genres with guest performances from various artists.
Following the loss of her firstborn child in 2012, gospel artist Tonzi founded "Birashoboka dufatanyije" (It's Possible Together), an organization supporting children with disabilities through arts programs at their center in Remera, Kigali.
Tonzi has released her ninth album "Respect," featuring 15 songs and collaborations with over 15 artists. The album reflects her journey after overcoming health challenges. A launch concert was scheduled for March 31, 2024, featuring local artists.
Clementine Uwitonze (Tonzi) began her musical journey at age 10 in an Adventist church choir. Despite early challenges, including threats of choir expulsion when selected for FESPAM in 2003, she launched her first album "Humura" in 2007 and has since released eight albums with over 100 songs.
